The Miller Multimatic 215 is made by Miller Electric Mfg. LLC. Miller Electric has worked its way up to be the world’s largest manufacturer of arc welding products. The Miller Multimatic 215 is fairly small, but not tiny. The dimensions are 20.5” x 11.2” x 12.5”. It weighs only 38 lbs., which isn’t too heavy compared to normal for a welder of this size. This is one of the smaller miller welders.
It can be connected to 120 Volts or 240 Volts of input power. 240 Volts of electricity is better because the welder will run smoother and easier and will reach the appropriate heat quicker. The duty cycle will also be improved by a larger Voltage.
The Multimatic can weld up to 3/8” mild steel but doesn’t do well with metals thicker than that. It can also weld easily on stainless steel or aluminum. You can use this welder for multiple types of welding, including Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), DC Stick welding or DC Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (DC TIG).
The gas needed for some types of welding, like for DC TIG, does not come included with the welder; it must be purchased separately. The TIG kit is also not included, which is needed to do the TIG welding. One of the pieces that does come with it, however, are a couple of contact tips. The size of the contact tip that comes with this welder fits a 0.30 inch wire.
It has an automatic fan to help keep the internal temperature of the welder regulated. You will want your welder to be cool to prevent the risk of a serious accident occurring due to explosion or overheating.

Buying the TIG kit is important if you plan on doing any TIG welding with the Multimatic welder. TIG welding is usually used for working on aluminum or chrome-moly steel. The electric torch is used with a filler rod. This kit doesn’t come with the gas you’ll need, and neither does the Multimatic welder, so you will have to purchase that as well.

This welder, along with other welders made by Miller Electric, is expensive. For the size of the machine, it costs considerably more than similar welders made by other brands. However, there are loads of people that say it is more than worth it. Miller has an incredible reputation for the creation of great welders that last a long time.
In other words, there is a legitimate reason why they are so expensive. This is a good welder to go with if you want something reliable and relatively small in size.
It is best used for at-home DIY projects, art sculpture or restorations, it’s not necessarily best for taking on the road to job sites and such.
No matter what you decide to use it for, the welds produced by this welder should always come out nice and clean, at least the majority of the time. If they do not, then it’s probably user error. There is such a huge following and awareness of how good Miller welders work.

Portability is not an issue at all for this welder because of the double handles and lightweight. It is also very easy to set up and start using.
There is an LCD screen on the front of it, which makes it easy to read what you are looking at. And just in case you are worried about the damage being caused to the screen, an extra protective cover for the screen comes with the welder.
